This photo was taken at Shiloh Cemetery during the Rev. Lawrence A. Davies' first year as pastor of Shiloh Baptist Church (Old Site). He's shown standing at the podium. Dr. Phillip Y. Wyatt, a deacon at Shiloh Old Site and a leader in the local and state NAACP, can be seen at the far right, leaning his chin on his hand.

Shiloh Cemetery

This historic cemetery has long served three of the city of Fredericksburg's sister African American congregations: Shiloh Baptist Church (Old Site), Shiloh Baptist Church (New Site), and Mt. Zion Baptist Church.. These three congregations share a common history and this common burial ground.

The cemetery is managed by an independent board made up of representatives of all three congregations. All three congregations regularly provide ongoing financial support for the maintenance of the cemetery.

Unfortunately, there is no complete and accurate list of burials in the cemetery. Many graves were unmarked from the beginning. And records were sometimes kept in a rather informal fashion.

An updated list of known burials, with many birth and death dates, can be found by clicking here. Keep in mind that the list is incomplete and may have some inaccuracies . But it was the best list available as of May 2019.
