Additional financial assistance was needed to help Shiloh’s historic cemetery recover from a series of destructive 2022 storms. Heavy winter snow, followed by strong spring and summer storms, brought down a large number of trees at the cemetery, obliterating graves and making a general mess (see photos below). For months, the much-needed clean-up had to be postponed due to a shortage of funds.
Thankfully, by November 2022, much progress had been made in removing debris and returning the cemetery to something closer to what it was intended to be.
Shiloh Cemetery, located near the corner of Monument and Littlepage streets in Fredericksburg, Virginia, is jointly maintained by the three historically interconnected African American congregations in the city of Fredericksburg: Shiloh Old Site, Shiloh New Site, and Mount Zion. The three congregations jointly fund the cemetery’s normal ongoing maintenance, but the cost of fixing the damage inflicted by 2022 storms went beyond what the three congregations together were normally able to provide.
Any additional financial support to aid in future projects would be most welcome and will be used exclusively for the cemetery maintenance and improvement. Tax-deductible gifts of any size are greatly appreciated.
