We could not let October end without paying tribute to all of our breast cancer survivors as well as those who are still battling the disease both in our congregation here at Shiloh Baptist Church (Old Site) and in the Fredericksburg community and around the world.
Each October, we remind both women and men to continue to conduct their self-breast checks for lumps and other changes in their breast, and to schedule mammograms. Just as there are many different types of breast cancers, there are also different types of treatments. If you have been diagnosed with cancer, please explore various options for treatment with your health-care provider.
As with any disease, it is very important to develop a healthy eating plan. Reduce your intake of fatty, sugary, processed, and fast foods. Load up on fresh and frozen vegetables and fruits whenever possible. This has a tremendous impact on your well-being.
We also salute all cancer survivors of any type and those still that are battling cancer.
Colon cancer is one of the leading causes of death in our community and persons are now being diagnosed at a younger age. However, there is good news. If detected early, colon cancer can be cured.
A colonoscopy is recommended by the age of forty-five (45), and as your doctor prescribes, thereafter. Importantly, read food labels and examine the fiber content. Select foods and meals that consist primarily of whole grains, vegetables, beans, legumes, and fruits instead of meals that are over-filled with protein, many of which have zero fiber, which is not good for your wellness.
We look forward to the day when we will again begin conducting health and wellness sessions at Shiloh Old Site.
In the meantime, we miss you. You are in our thoughts and prayers. Please stay healthy — and safe.
